Abstract
It is always exciting to embark upon a new adventure. You as new Ph.D candidates are beginning the most exciting and important journeys of your lives! You have golden opportuntiies to help make differences in the ways societies make urgentally needed changes in the context of climate change and the interconnected dimensions of equity, sustainabilty and reseliance.
Since the industrial revolution of the late 1800’s our societries have inceasingly depended upon upon fossil-carbon energy sources, but it is clear that such energy sources replaced by renewable energy sources, energy efficiency and social equility, locally, globally and glocally!!
Your choices for thesis topics and theoretical frameworks will help you to contribute to making the needed changes as you continue on your individual and collective paths. Success, wisdom, patience, persistance and satisfaction to you.
I will seek to challenge, encourage and guide you as you begin your journey.
Short Bio
Donald Huisingh is a retired Senior Scientist in Sustainable Development at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tennessee.
Prof. Huisingh is skilled in interdisciplinary education and holistic approaches to defining and solving society's problems to make effective and equitable progress toward Sustainable Societies. He is skilled in course and curriculum development in topics ranging from Sustainable Development and Regional Sustainable Development, and on detailed issues about Impacts of Climate Changes, Cleaner Production, System’s Thinking, Circular Economy, & Eco-efficiency.
Prof. Huisingh is the Founder and was the Editor-in-Chief for the first 23 years of its publication. He is now Emeritus Editor, of the JOURNAL OF CLEANER PRODUCTION, which is an Elsevier Science Publication, that is being published for the 26th year of publication. It’s 2016 Impact Factor is: 5.715; (http://ees.elsevier.com/jclepro/default.asp)
He is co-founder of the Erasmus International Off-Campus Ph. D. Program in Cleaner Production, Cleaner Products, Industrial Ecology and Sustainable Development in Erasmus University in Rotterdam, and one of the co-founders of the International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE) of Lund University
He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in June 1965.
